At first glance, the dilapidated building looked more like a meth house than a sanctuary. Hugh walked up the wide steps and through the already cracked entry door. He was expected so there was no bother knocking.
“Come, have a seat, Hugh. Let’s talk.” The figure seated in the middle of the large room was shadowed so Hugh couldn’t tell what he looked like but his voice was smooth and melodic.
Hugh took a seat opposite the shadowed figure and crossed is legs. He placed his recorder on the table between them and pushed play. The shadow man leaned forward and Hugh could see him clearly. He was magnificently handsome; His black hair gleamed in the sunshine streaming through the windows.
“How are you, Hugh?” The handsome man asked.
“The real question is, how are you? Let’s start there.” Hugh was bold and he knew he was playing with fire.
The man stood up, looked down on Hugh and smiled a beautiful smile. As he leaned over to say something to Hugh, he shook out his elegant burgundy wings. They stretched out clear across the room on each side. Hugh figured they had to be a forty foot span easy. Next, the man closed his wings and enveloped Hugh.
“Sit down. You do not scare me.” Hugh ordered the man. The man pulled his wings back and behind him.
Hugh continued, “You are a beautiful creature. So, tell me how does it feel to know that you are just that, a creature? How does it feel to know that you were created by the very being you despise?”
The creature tapped on the table and the recorder caught fire and melted into a pool of plastic. Hugh held on to his chair as the building began to shake and the walls crumbled around him. Then the man with wings grabbed Hugh by the shirt and pulled him to his chest.
“Ready to fly, Hugh?” With those words, the man and Hugh flew straight up into the air. When they reached a thousand feet, the man held Hugh out and shouted, “Look at the chaos below. It is for me they live and die! Look! It is for me - Zeldoor”
Hugh looked down and below he could see fires raging and plumes of smoke. He looked over at the man and held out his arm with his palm turned up. A bright round orb began to glow in his palm and in an instant he slung it at the black angel called Zeldoor. Zeldoor’s grip loosed from the blinding light and Hugh began to fall. On the way down, Hugh opened his own wings and circled back around Zeldoor. He threw more orbs at him until one got hung up in his wing and it began to burn. Zeldoor spiraled down until he landed hard on the pavement below. Hugh was fast to land next to the body; It is possible that people saw what happened. Upon landing, Hugh wrapped his wings around Zeldoor and they disappeared.
A few hours later at the office, Hugh explained that the building caught on fire and the recorder was destroyed. The infamous man he was supposed to interview disappeared in the fiery plumes.
“I suppose that interview of a lifetime will have to be some other time, Maury.” Hugh wished he could tell Maury what really happened. He wanted to tell him about taking Zeldoor down to a pit in hell and chaining him up. He wanted to tell him about how the world is going to change radically soon but that is not his job. He is not a messenger angel; He is a retriever angel. He only retrieves what was loosened from hell until the Coming.
Hugh smiled on his way out, “It won’t be long though, you can count on it.”
