Will our conscience bring on rest, or engage a moral fight
Our lives have changing seasons described by varied names
Enveloped in His love, He teaches, guides and trains
When goodness warms our spirits, hearts explode with easy joy
When lightning bolts come striking, whose defense do we employ
Faith hangs in the balance of each weakness and each strength
How far pendulums swing affect our trials and their length
Like bookends holding written pages neatly on a shelf
Between strong hands we’re gently held--God draws us to Himself
Will we feel the gentle tugs and hear soft whispered words
Will we accept each challenge, or think them too absurd
The pendulum of time will someday be exhausted
Will our days be brightly lit or by darkness be accosted
Will we be refreshed by sparkling streams unpolluted
Or know the stinging pain from faith that’s been diluted
This world is bookended between spent and future years
Past centuries lie buried under unrepented tears
Age-old mistakes mankind persists in repeating
As the pendulum swings and time is ever fleeting
Will we be among those singing praises to His glory
Or sitting all alone, regretting end of chapter stories
Hear the final grinding ticks of mortal earthly clocks--
Were we anchored to perdition, or to the solid Rock
