Cast your gaze upwards into the shadowy gloom at the very pinnacle of our great Big Top ladies and gentlemen where you may just catch a glimpse of the astounding Paparazzi Brothers. No height too great to get that perfect shot, no lens too ridiculously long, no depth of depravity and personal invasion too low to bring you those pictures and stories of the Stars with which to titillate your desire for gossip and slander.
Come be mesmerised by the mysterious powers of Televisio. Called, as Ernie Kovacs was once reputed to have said, a medium because it is neither rare nor well done, he will hypnotise you, come into your homes and teach your children about violence and drugs and you will think nothing of it. He will offer you more channels and less choice. He knows what you want and will give it to you whether you like it or not.
Come gaze in open mouthed awe ladies and gentlemen at the sight and sound of a genuine living dinosaur: Commercial Radio. Surviving on a diet of badly made and often repeated advertisements, this once proud beast now fills the air with a constant stream of inane chatter. If you are patient and wait long enough you may hear something of its musical song, but sadly this is an all too rare occurrence in the modern world.
You will not believe your eyes at the sheer speed of the newest member to join our troop. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you The Internet: the fastest means known to man for disseminating information of little interest and less accuracy. Come read so many half-truths and baseless opinions that you will soon question everything you know. Then join in; with blogs and tweets you cans share more information about yourself than your friends ever wanted to know. See how it can be twisted and turned against you by the unscrupulous as they steal not only your wealth but your very identity.
Come to the media Circus ladies and gentlemen where we have so many ways to keep you entertained, to fragment your mind and stifle your imagination. We will fill your heads with so much drivel that soon you won’t be able to tell wrong from right, the truth from a lie. Come on, ignorance is bliss; put down that book and come and have a look. We’ll never let you go once we have you on our hook.
Come on step right up, good evening sir, good evening madam, step right this way for the Greatest Show on Earth. There’s one born every minute.
