gracefully skips across the water
to plant warm kisses
across my upturned face;
with eyes closed
I feel its gentle caress upon my skin--
God’s arms envelop me in a
warm embrace of love;
God’s light chases away the shadows.
The wind scampers with glee
over the sand and playfully
runs its fingers through my hair;
its breath, redolent of the sea,
tickles my ear, whispering secrets
of mystery and other worlds--
the Spirit of the Lord, riding on the wind,
speaks to my heart and soul
of healing and refreshment.
The waves, racing up
to lick my toes, make a
hasty retreat, enticing
me to chase them,
their push and pull a gentle
massage against my feet--
the voice of the Lord roars in the pounding surf,
resonating and vibrating within me it
declares the Lord’s power and majesty.
The sand, cool and moist along
the water’s edge,
cushions my feet as I walk;
where my feet touch,
a melting print is slowly
swallowed into the cool depths--
God’s presence surrounds me,
upholding me with strong hands,
absorbing my pain, erasing my sins.
The ocean morning awakes,
I feel renewed; I join in
the song of the sun and the sand,
the music of the wind and the waves;
together we lift our praise
to the Lord, our Creator.
