”He’s dead !! Messiah is dead!!” they kept saying to each other.
Tears flowed down unhindered, moaning escalated, and grief flowed freely. Huddled and crouched in fear, they were hiding,.... when He walked noiselessly into the room. Aghast and dumbstruck, they looked and looked again. He didn’t use a key!! He just walked through the walls…!!
“Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” said Jesus. After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. {John 20:20-21}.
“He spoke!! He’s alive!!” He was dead the last time they saw him hanging on that horribly grotesque cross…. Their human locks could not keep him out.
Like the disciples, many of us are in or have locked rooms; we have locked our hearts, minds, and hearts away. These locks were created by fear, doubt, guilt, and past events like abuse and broken hearts.
Being afraid creates emotional locks in us. Such as one who is anxious and afraid in traffic, afraid of being hit or rear-ended…again; it creates a reluctance to indulge in that activity and may create a locked space in our souls. The trauma of the incident remains.
Doubting that one is safe in traffic has hindered some from driving. Being rear-ended could be the trigger.
Another doubt may arise when starting a new friendship. Some people experience fear and reluctance to let someone in because they seem to want so much more than you can give. So they put on a brave face but run away if this ‘friend’ gets too close. Questions arise… is that person trustworthy? Because of the way they look, or maybe they remind you of someone else from negative past events. Painful past events create wounds that may hide in a locked room of one’s soul.
Some women express irrepressible guilt over the past, such as when they aborted their unborn child. Another example is of a husband or fiance who swore to be faithful but had a secret mistress, as they later found out. So, they lock away the pain in a place deep in their heart.
Jesus did not judge his disciples who were hiding. He set them free. He didn’t judge them. He loved them and loves us unconditionally. He gave them The Holy Spirit, and He has given Him to us too... thus our locked doors are open, or can be opened.
The Word of God says,” Again …Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that, he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” {John 20: 21-23}.
Matthew 7:7-8 states: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened". These verses, part of the Sermon on the Mount, encourage persistent prayer and trust in God's faithfulness, promising that those who diligently seek Him will be answered.
