“For better or worse!” Pastor Carl’s words echoed in her mind…day after day. She could hear the words as Johnny shouted and yelled at her. He always came home drunk. He hated his job and his life. This indeed was the worst. When they first met, he seemed such a gentle man. He was a long-distance lorry driver. He hated his job, but the pay was excellent. He would be away from Julie for days. He missed home and often missed church.
Missing baby Justin’s birthday last week really upset him. He often felt lonely as he travelled across states for hours and hours to deliver merchandise. He felt stuck in the job!
Julie prayed for him that God will bring a resolution or another job. He used to be a carpenter but only did that as a hobby now. As a young boy, he and his dad made things to sell at the local market; like carved animals and objects for Christmas trees. Sometimes he played Christian music as he drove, and that was so good. He couldn’t help thinking how difficult it was for Jesus, whose assignment was to go to earth and die…in a human way. He was stuck! He’d made a covenant!
A covenant had been made; it was an unbreakable, sacred, solemn, and binding agreement between Father God and His Only Son Jesus, which involved promises and conditions. “The God of Peace brought the Great Shepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus, back to life through the blood of an eternal promise.”{Hebrews 13 :20}
“After supper he took another cup of wine and said, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you” {Luke 22:20}.
So if Jesus stuck to the covenant he made with Father, Johnny felt in his heart that things had to change. So, in his quiet time with The Lord, he made a committment. He would stop drinking, and stop thinking about his job as ‘stuck’....instead he would use his days of to do better. Better meaning being stay strong in The Lord, to be kind to his family and seeking a way to market his carved creations.
“Maybe Julie darling” Johnny said, “God wants me in the job that I am in; and I need to work on being thankful in all thing instead of feeling stuck .The Apostle Paul states, "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”."{1Thessalonians 5:18}.
“My darling Johnny, we must also pray together, and with the children every morning that you are home, and covenant to stay strong, stable, fastened together through our faith in God”, said Julie with a smile.
