White aprons marked them out
As maids who served their wealthy masters
Quick determined steps in quiet shoes
Heading to their demanding assignments.


Wearing body armour that shines on the battlefields
They march on strong feet with swords in sheaths.
Unified to serve, to fight, and to die for Rome.
To deliver their country from invaders.


Scrubs, badges, and smiles labelled them
Doctors, nurses, therapists, and nursing aids
Husted with purpose into each room
Efficiently serving with scheduled assignments.


Police packing guns as they enforce the law
Uniforms pack a bundle
Dressing the part and signalling authority
They serve their country as they curb lawbreaking.


Many men and women who love The Lord,
Pack up their gear, get the shots, and fly off.
Their plan is to serve God as they help and heal people
In countries all over the world.


Missionaries speak with their hands as they help the poor.
They promote their faith through teaching, healthcare or they build homes.
They wear the Armor of God as they interact with locals,
They were called by God to love by serving.


Pastors and Elders serve by teaching
Deacons and deaconesses serve by helping
Those anointed to heal and restore serve by deliverance
Some serve by intercession as they deeply pray from hearts afire for The Kingdom of God.

What a lovely poem. It made me stop and think. Poetry isn't my favorite genre, but I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I think it was a sweet way to honor the many ways people can serve.
