In Acts 8, (NKJV), we read how Philip preached Christ to an Ethiopian eunuch. In history, we read that the eunuch came from a Gentile nation and was a gentile. And it is believed that it was the first gentile the apostle preached Christ to.
In the Bible it says, “Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” It was a desert. So, he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet.
Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
So, Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”
And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come and sit with him.
Remember, at the beginning, the Gentiles did not have the law, covenants, or prophets to guide them. But Jesus came and made a way for both Jews and Gentiles to enter His presence and have life and life more abundantly by His death and resurrection.
So, Philip got up on the chariot, took the same scripture, and began to speak to him of the resurrection of Christ and His power.
As soon as he heard the Word, the eunuch said, here is water. What does hinder me from being baptized?
Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.”
And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”
They immediately emerged from the chariot, and Philip baptized him as the Spirit commissioned him. And when he did, the Spirit of the Lord caught him away, and the eunuch saw him no more. Then, the eunuch started to rejoice in the Lord, for he had seen the supernatural demonstrated before him in plain view.
Let us take comfort in the knowledge that the supernatural is not a thing of the past but a living reality in our present. For Jesus, our unchanging guide, is the same Yesterday, Today, and Forever.
How wonderful and marvelous are thy works, Oh God! Your ways are past finding out!
