She was having lunch with her friend and prayer partner Susan in a park.
“This bullying isn't right,” she said to her friend.
“Husbands should love their wives, not control them in a loud harsh manner” replied Susan.
“He even calls me mousy, because I do not yell back at him” added Mary sadly.
Mary knew that keeping her peace was vital. She loved her husband, so she kept a nice home, cooked his favorite meals, and prayed for him.
He no longer went to church.
“His job is his life but the job is the problem. He comes home shaking sometimes. The anguish and stresses of his job are visible on his face” she added to Susan.
“I never ask him about his job, because that is the trigger.”
The women held hands and prayed for him.
Susan added, "As you know, when we met at college, he was a bubbly friendly guy, full of hope and eager to become a cop.
“Now, ten years later, we've been married for five years..so, do I remain meek and mousy Mary?”
“We have no children and I feel that our marriage is at a crossroads” she shared as they parted company.
That night Rob came home wounded. There was blood on his trousers and a bandage wrapped around his left leg.
“Oh Rob”, cried Mary, “what happened, my love?”
“I was been shot in my leg. There was a violent incident with a group of drug dealers”
His voice broke and he started crying.
She hastily moved towards him and hugged him.
“I’m sorry, my love” she repeatedly said.
“I'm sorry, darling. You've been so patient with me and my bad moods”....he said between gasps.
He was given leave from work and during the two months, they grew closer again.
He started going to church with her and took part in men’s ministry. He helped with the boys club when he could. He did go back to work but, thankfully he was a changed man at home.
He was so much less aggressive in his relationship with her, and, you could say, meek and loving in his general manner.

I think you did a great job of writing on topic. You held my attention. Even though the ending was wrapped up a bit too neatly, I still enjoyed it. It made me smile and made me think.
