Topic: Compassion (05/23/24)
John and Fred lived next door to each other and for years they would talk over the back fence, borrow tools and chat about nothing, but it remained a casual relationship until Fred’s wife Jackie died after a short illness.
John attended the funeral.
Fred was in total despair and wept throughout the ceremony.That night he could not sleep.
‘How am I going to live without my Jackie?’ was his constant thought. ‘Thirty years of marriage..’
That night he could not settle, so he left the house and decided to get out..
Go for a walk..
Yes,it was dark. No lights anywhere. He started walking towards the lake,weeping as he went. He felt so alone.

From his front window, John saw Fred leave, so he headed out after him.
He was afraid for him. He could see him weeping as he walked. He could sense the grief and stayed with him for hours..
He walked behind him,but kept his distance... He felt such compassion for him because he too had lost his sweet Rosie five years ago. He remembered how he felt when he lost her.

After a while, Fred looked back at him but said nothing.
When the sun came up, John said softly “Let's get some breakfast”.
Together they walked to the local cafe, and had a quiet small meal.
“Thanks for staying with me. You are a true friend.” said Fred.
“You have such a big kind heart. Full of compassion,neighbor”.

That Sunday, Fred came to church with John.
He told him afterward that hearing about Jesus and listening to the hymns and the sermons warmed his heart. Walks became less frequent but they both loved talking about The Bible and the Christian life..
Eventually, Fred gave his life to the Lord.
In his testimony, he always mentioned the neighbour who walked with him, and whose compassionate heart and actions warmed his heart, and showed him the love of Jesus, as a good neighbor friend.

This is a sweet story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. It made me smile. You need to double check for errors before submitting. Letting it rest for a day or two can really help your eyes spot things like a missing dot in an ellipsis or a missing space between words. There's also some great writing tips on the message boards under Jan's Writing Basics. You did a fine job of developing your characters, writing on topic, and having a clear message.

A good example of ‘compassion’. I would agree with the previous assessment on grammatical errors.
