He was noted for scouting Canaan with Caleb and unlike others, they gave a good report. “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.” {Numbers 13:27}.
When Moses died, he became the leader of Israel.
God protected him and told him not to be afraid.{Joshua 10:8}
“Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands. Not a man of them shall stand before you.”
He protected the people, fought many wars, conquered cities, crossed the Jordon, and defeated many kings in many lands.
Incredibly even the sun stood still at his command. After he spoke to the Lord,he said these words;
“Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped until the nation took vengeance on their enemies”. {Joshua10:12-13].
Marching around Jericho for six days as The Lord had commanded him and the falling down of the walls was under his leadership.
“So the people shouted, and the priests blew with the horns. And it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the horn, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat…” ..
”So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land”{Joshua 6: 20,26}.
He led the people until his death. His final instructions to the tribal leaders were to serve God and not to serve foreign gods.
“But Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.If you forsake the Lord and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” {Joshua 24:19-20}. He made a covenant with them based on their agreement not to serve foreign gods and he wrote it in The Book of Law. {Joshau 24:26}.
He was doing his job as leader to protect them from destruction, curses and God’s anger untill he died at the age of 110. Sadly, after his death and others of that generation, the people did not know the Lord and served Baal. {Judges 2:10-12}. This angered The Lord.
