I remember a story about a preacher going through a complicated legal situation with his country's government. During that time, his lawyer constantly called him to ensure he hadn't lied to him and to get information to present his innocence to the court. The preacher was tired of the lawyer's bombarded calls and thus became frustrated and depressed.
The preacher was in his yard that morning when he heard the phone rung. His instinct told him it was the lawyer again, so he ran to the door and motioned to his wife to tell the lawyer that he was not home. The faithful wife answered the phone and told the lawyer that her husband was out, and then she said to husband, "but you're at home Billy." His response was, "I was not in the house." After, he felt convicted because he had lied and caused his wife to lie.
He became sorrowful and couldn't sleep that night. He repented to God, and I assumed he had asked his wife to forgive him. When the morning came, he quickly went to the lawyer's office. When the lawyer saw him, he was surprised. Brother Billy confessed to the lawyer what he had done and asked for forgiveness.
The lawyer looked at him in disbelief and said, "Billy, I always respected you, but now I have more respect for you."
Isn't that wonderful!
That's what integrity does. It has a profound impact on the lives of those who behold it.
