Piercing, twisting, stabbing cramps pervade me
It was time! The date on the calendar said so.
I'd read the books and attended the classes.
This was the real thing. It was a 'go!'
A woman's lot to create had a timebound cost
The finale of labour - a delight-filled glow.

Agonising time. This delivery did end!
Reminds me of what Jesus may have suffered.
Iron nails cruelly secured soft flesh to a cruel cross.
A gritty stony path that only He could tread.
Born for this, as Redeemer of God's lost creation.
A sinless man! Macabre ghastly! He's dead!

Intensely focused on redemption He gave it all.
God’s created new covenant is with Gentiles like me.
Love brought Jesus to earth humbly as a man.
To cancel the curse that Adam ate from a tree.
Pilate and Judas were tools in this trial
God's Son had to die on a tree for all to see.

Numbed, overwhelmed and anguished by what was ahead,
He prayed in agonizing loneliness in Gethsemane.
Soldiers beat Him, they crowned Him with thorns and thistles.
But 'Name above all names' won the battle for me.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Jesus bore the scars and stripes.
He rose, gave us love, peace, and eternal life, and set us free.

As a father, I've only attended the births of our kids, but your descriptions align with what I heard and saw. (But thankfully never experienced.)
You have described Jesus' agony so well, but could I suggest your brief bridge across to him had room to include more on your joy in seeing your baby grow? This is not criticism for its own sake, but it might have allowed space for the parallel of Jesus' joy in our growth, as his agony led to the birth of the church as his body through his resurrection.

Nicely written - I feel God’s pleasure as His children write about the Cross, His shed Blood and what that agony delivered.

I sasw both of my children born. Your description of delivery reminded of what my wife went through. I was anxious throughout the entire delivery.

When I held my children the anxiety was replaces with joy and gratitude.

I imagined the joy I would enjoy spending time with them just as the Lord is joyful when we spend time with Him.

This is a lovely piece and the words definitely paint a picture. I wonder if you could have connected childbirth with the cross more, maybe one stanza on labor, the next on the cross, back to our perspective, back to the cross. I think the idea was really wonderful and the message profound.
