Topic: MATCH (08/26/21)
A simple match with so much potential to wreak havoc. That is all it took on that hot summer day. It was a scorcher with no rain in sight. Was the match thrown without thinking or was it done on purpose? That is the question that so many people have asked.

What started off as a small flicker erupted into an all out firefight! Homes and businesses were all coming down. Lives were at stake! The firefighters both paid and volunteers were doing double time. Exhaustion was seen on their faces. To make it even worse the police had to deal with looters.

What are wrong with individuals? Cannot they see that there are more important things going on here?

It was at this moment that I realized that there is another type of match. The match that God has placed in my heart. A match to let my light shine within the turmoil. I got on my knees and began to pray for the Almighty’s intervention. He showed me to get up and walk through town proclaiming relief from the heat and flames. People came up and joined in and before I knew it my one little match lit many more and we had our own spiritual fire going.

Relief came a day later in the form of bountiful rain. The fire went out and the scorching heat was suppressed. Our band, as I like to call it, went outside into the streets dancing and singing and giving praise to God.

To God it didn’t matter whether the fire was started intentionally with the match or not, but the spiritual fire was another story. God wants us to always keep the fire burning within us.

“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:15,16 NIV)

This is a brilliant devotion. The Scripture you picked was a great fit. I liked how you started with a real-life story that anyone can relate to and turned it into a beautiful spiritual message that people need to hear, especially in today's world. With a bit of tweaking, I think this could be a great submission for devotion magazines and definitely for FW's daily devotions. If you haven't thought of submitting it before, I'd urge you to do so. Congratulations on ranking 2nd in your level and 11th overall. The highest rankings can be found on the message boards.
