In high school I loved all subjects except one.
I excelled in History and was impassioned by literature.
Algebra, however, befuddled me.
Despite hours and hours of study
It remained as clear as mud to me.

Just so in Jesus' day, His ethos of love,
turning water into wine, associating with social outcasts,
raising Lazarus from the dead and his non adherence to Sabbath
rules, baffled and angered the Judaizers and High Priests.
To them, his behaviour was clear as mud.

The disciples, the women, his mother and brothers prayed.
They waited in an upper room. [Acts 1:14 LEB}
Terrified yet hopeful. Messiah was gone. He was not in the grave.
Then He came through the walls, ate and drank with them
and left again.
That was clear as mud to them.

The Holy Spirit came as tongues of fire and empowered them.
They became brave and daring. Spoke in many tongues.
Left their hiding place and went out among men
No longer in fear. Many were won to the faith.
No longer muddy to them. It was all clear.

People could hear the message in their own language.
Those who accepted his message were baptized,
and on that day about three thousand souls were added to the
church. {Act 2 LEB}. That was clearly of God.

To modern day non believers, our persistence of faith in Christ
and choosing to love our neighbour is confusing.
Some capture and rape Christian girls, burn down churches and
blow themselves up in crowds as they seek to overthrow
Christianity. They will always fail. The Kingdom came.
His will be done.
To them, that is as clear as mud.

A clear promise awaits. No mud. Just hope.
"God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. {Rev 3:5 NIV}
