Almost 40 years ago, as a believer but living ‘my way’, I was in the eye of a storm. Feeling I was at the end of my rope, fighting my way out, I found an Anchor, fastened to a Rock called Jesus. I had known about Him but until I said, “Lord, I have made a mess of things; please take over,” I didn’t KNOW Him. I had not studied His Word. I was in the doldrums, not moving forward, without a paddle, until He heard my prayer and took over.

I read of Paul, caught in a physical storm, who said to those with Him, “Men, you should have taken my advice not to sail from Crete; then you would have spared yourselves this damage and loss.” (Acts 27)

So often we are given advice that in hindsight we realise would have saved us much trouble. When our gracious God gives second chances we do well to be obedient.

In Isaiah 25:4 we learn that our God is a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.

When the waves threaten to crush you; when circumstances make your path seemingly un-navigable and you don’t know where to turn, then turn to God who is able to guide you through. Yes, we know He is able to still the storm but sometimes He wants us to learn from it so takes us step by step through to a peace-filled haven.

We are blessed in the knowledge that we have this hope in a God who does not lie. Read Hebrews 6:18 and 19 and know this great truth. “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” No storm can overpower us when we cling to that anchor.

If you are hanging on to a rope, thinking it is too short, remember there is an anchor at the end – Jesus.

Good job with the lesson and comparison between physical and spiritual storms. I was a little confused by your use of the phrase, the eye of the storm" since that makes me think of a brief moment of peace and calm in the midst of turbulence, but maybe that is what you meant?

I think this is a good devotional. I too though question "eye of the storm" in the context of this paragraph. I'm assuming it was an attempt to set a "weather" theme, but you can probably find a better weather metaphor for this context.
