delivered at her door,
the colour red, the scent a flame
of passion and 'amour'.
She'd known him just a little while,
for just a month or so.
He'd charmed her with his winning smile,
his dark hair and his 'mo'.
But it was his French accent that
so caused her pulse to race,
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
brought 'rougir' to her face.
They wined and dined with much panache;
he swept her off her feet.
He courted her with style and dash.
He never missed a beat.
But it was his French accent that
so caused her pulse to race,
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
brought 'rougir' to her face.
She dreamed a future at his side,
of bliss and fine romance.
She pictured herself as his bride,
perhaps to live in France.
And it was his French accent that
so caused her pulse to race,
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
brought 'rougir' to her face.
One sultry night he didn't come
She missed his 'je t'adore'.
She felt her gentle heart grow numb,
and icy at its core.
She ran at dawn to his abode
to knock there at 'la porte',
keeping watch along the road
for him, the one she sought.
Missing his French accent that
so caused her pulse to race,
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
that 'rougired' so her face.
A head poked from a window near.
A sleepy voice called down,
'If you want François, he ain't here;
he's scarpered out of town.'
'He left a note in case you came
You'll find it 'neath the mat.
He left it there; it has your name
I'm very sure of that.'
With trembling hands and fearful heart
She read the scribbled note:
'I had to go, we had to part.
I had to take the boat.
I had to go back to my wife;
I never should have strayed.
Please forgive me for this strife;
To face you I'm afraid.'
'You scoundrel with your French accent
you lied right to my face,
your roses and your 'chocolat'
have brought you to disgrace.'
She rued the fine French accent that
so caused her pulse to race
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
that 'rougired' so her face.
She made a vow to never fall
in love with such a man,
be he handsome, dark or tall,
if cheating was his plan.
Yet she missed his accent that
so caused her pulse to race,
his soft 'chérie', his 'chocolat'
that 'rougired' so her face.
