Thick dust and mould,
Cracked panes and rust
And a sign that says “Sold”;
The porch swing is still,
No light by the door;
The creak of the rocking chair
Is heard here no more.
Weeds choke the dry lawn
Which once was so green,
Flower beds lie empty,
No life to be seen;
Youth that once lived here
Resides here no more,
No smiling young face
Greets your knock on the door.
Where once there was light
Is now almost dark,
As twilight’s descended
Leaving its mark;
Hands that once planted
Now tremble with age;
Eyes that shone brightly
Cannot see the page.
Now in an old age home
Rows of white chairs
Seat old men and women
With silver-grey hair;
Remembering days past,
Months and years gone,
Filled with activity,
Laughter and fun.
Weep not for those
Who seem to be done,
Whose work is no more,
Whose races are run.
As time slows its passage
And twilight years come,
New life lies before them
New hope in the Son.
When finally time ends
When God shuts the door
On this life and its pleasures
When breath is no more,
Weak limbs are stilled
And pale skin is cold,
New mansions will welcome
In streets paved with gold.
No tears will be there
No anger or strife
Just love, peace and joy
In this new heavn’ly life
Where lion and lamb
Lie together like one
And angels sing “Glory
To God’s only Son.”

It caused me to remember that even in the twilight, life still has it purpose. It is not all waiting.

Hope to see you at the FaithWriters' Conference in August. It’s going to be an amazing time of inspiration, information and encouragement. (If I’ve already mentioned that to you, forgive me. We’re just so excited about letting members know about this great gathering.)
