Jesus our Bridge
Bridges are something that gets you over an otherwise impassable place. Anytime settlers in an area found themselves confronted with a huge chasm, or rough waters, they would have to remain on the banks unless some sort of bridge was erected.
Jesus is the believer’s bridge. As we travel through this life we will all be confronted with problems and circumstances that there seems no way around. They loom before us as far as the eye can see and tend to stop us in our tracks. But when we call on Jesus, he makes a way where there seemed no way. He becomes the bridge over the turbulent waters in our lives, and across the dark canyons of hopelessness and despair.
Many believers do not cross over however. When they encounter the raging rivers that stand as an obstacle in their path, they mistakenly decide God must not want them to go in the direction that they had beforehand felt led to travel. They often turn back in confusion and never make it across to the Promised Land. Most often it seems, Christ does not erect the bridge until we come to that place of need and are ready to step ahead, not knowing HOW God will get us to where he has been leading us, but believing he is guiding and able to provide a way.
What if Moses and the children of Israel had looked at the Red Sea, and waited for it to part before they moved forward? God made Moses actually put his feet in the water before there was any indication of what God was about to do. We usually try to go around or go back, but God generally takes us over or through the situation.
Of course it is always a good idea when you encounter a hard crossing in your life to pray and consider whether you did indeed hear from God and are on the path he instructed you to take, but don’t let an un-crossable situation make you give up or turn around. The bridge may appear just as you take that step of faith.
