I would wait gleefully
For Little Chocolate Bunnies
My mother bought for me
And sitting on my Daddy’s lap
All sticky from the feed
My Little Chocolate Bunnies
Were yummy as can be
At night all snug in my bed
My mother she would read
A story about a man so great
Who died upon a cross
This story I didn’t like to hear
It made me very sad
Why did this man have to die
It didn’t seem right to me
My mother would hug me tight
And say do not be sad
His love for us was shown that day
When he gave his life for us
I still remember in my teens
I would wait so patiently
For those delicious little bunnies
My mother bought for me
And the sadness in mother’s eyes
The hurt and pain I caused
When I declared I did not want
To hear that same old story
Now I am getting old
And the grey is setting in
I think of those days of old
With a smile and a cringe
I still enjoy the chocolate
No bunnies these days for me
But a box of assorted chockies
To eat while I read
I cannot remember exactly
When the Truth came to me
And I started to believe
That Jesus died for me
As the years melt away
I close my eyes and see
Memories of my younger days
And Easter with Ma and Pa
The story my mother use to read
Has now become my life
I thank the Lord for loving me so
As I yearn to hear Ma say…
"For God so loved the world
That he gave his one and only Son,
That whoever believes in him
Shall not perish but have eternal life.”
(John 3:16 NIV)
