I know of a young girl brought up in a Christian home. I'll call her Mandy. As a baby, she attended church with her mother, and when she was about nine or ten years old, she accepted the Lord as her Savior. As she grew older and became a teenager, she began to sing in the church and engaged in youth programs.

Her mother was a single parent who did her best to raise her daughter in the fear of the Lord. She was also proud of her daughter and the Christian values she instilled in her.

Mandy met a young man in high school who befriended her. He thought her cute and noticed that she was different from the other girls he flirted with. He was no prince charming but was popular with the girls. Without her mother's knowledge, she visited his home to meet his parents. Immediately, they saw that she was of a different kind from the others that he brought to their home, and they loved her.

Mandy began to live a double life. She lived one life with her mother and the believers in the church and another with the young man and his family. Mandy would attend church and pretend that all was well with her Christian walk with the Lord. Nevertheless, her relationship with the young man grew, and her mom was so disappointed when she discovered their relationship.

When Mandy brought the young man to meet her mother, her mother's response to him was negative. She didn't like him for her daughter; she didn't like the way he dressed or carried himself, which was not what she expected of a decent young man. Mandy was upset and discontinued her walk with God and stopped attending church. Her mother did her best to separate them. But despite all the odds, they eventually got married.

They have four children, all grown up, who have done well in school, and she and her husband have done well financially.

She once told me about their achievements. They own their home, and he has a real estate business. At one time, she worked with him, but now she is doing what she loves to do: nutrition. I thought of God's goodness towards her, and Romans 2:4 came to mind. I told her that God's goodness leads man to repentance.

God has been lenient with her. But does she realize it, or does she think it is her ability?

As Christians, we often find ourselves in a cycle of repeatedly failing and repenting, making the same mistakes. Yet, God, rich in mercy, continues to forgive us.

Don't we see that His kindness intends to draw us closer to Him so we can overcome the sin that so easily besets us and walk in His love?

Mandy's story is a testament to this. Despite her choices, God's kindness and love continued to pursue her. His intention is for her to come back to Him.
