"A gentle response turns back rage"
A torrent or rage, oh, please forbid.
Pours down on my head, I'm lurid.
A cup of tea,
Sit, free and pray
Away the fury burning inside, I'm worried.
Breathe in tender whisper.
Gently disarm this temper.
Tackle kindly.
Speak softly,
Gentle answer turns away wrath.
I turn on the headlines, I cope.
Evil has a knack for poking jabs untold.
They make my blood boil,
Their renditions spoil.
Stop! Breathe in the sweet grace of God of hope.
Someone berates my worth,
Threats with idle words, onslaught.
Words neither Thesaurus,
Nor Merriam fathoms,
But I know much power of a gentle merry heart.
A broken, angry spirit dries up bones,
Proverbs 17 verse 22 owns
These sayings, they impart--
Melts the hardest heart
Before the lowly, humble spirit's response.
When words are plenty in a confrontation,
Sin is present in idle interlocution.
End the battle, quick,
Before it begins to stick.
Become the mighty gentle hero who rules over impulse.
Teenagers rage, they're drudge.
Toddlers' tantrums throw you on edge
Soothe an angry child,
You can pretend a smile.
Love shall redeem them in time 'til the end.
Speak evil of no man, no quarrellers.
In the family of God, no place for brawlers.
But gentleness
Showing meekness,
As a mother cherishes her children.
Love the LORD we serve
Kindly acts of grace by Him, strive
To do acts of gentleness
To teach patience,
Peace and faith, Jesus' gentle love reflected.
