Topic: PROMISE (09/02/21)
Alex Jones was somewhat glum as he drove to the church for the second Light Force wedding in the last couple of years. He and Amazing Girl were dating, but they were still at the hand holding stage.

He realized that he should be happy for his teammates‘ happiest day, but after seeing Diamond marry Mariness, and now being a groomsman for Megawatt marrying Coldfire, he admitted to himself that he wasn’t as happy as he could be.

As he pulled into the parking lot of Blessed Fellowship, Alex promised himself to act happy. ‘After all’, he told himself, ‘nothing will go that bad. And seeing Tabitha would be worth it.’

Alex was right, up to the point where the happy couple exchanged their vows, promising to be faithful to each other and the LORD. Jennifer had just spoken the custom part of her vows to Dirk, “Dirk, I was breathing but not alive…” when the door slammed open and five colorfully clad people strode into the church.

Alex saw Rex’s fist ball up as he prepared to defend against Allah’s Fist. Alex was a little jealous that Rex could use his powers as Diamond without blowing his secret identity. The silvery glow that Alex’s powers gave off when he used his gravity powers prevented anonymous use of his abilities. Dirk and Jenny had similar issues with their powers. Tabitha moved subtly behind Rex to similarly attack or defend.

Lion Lord, Allah’s Fist’s leader, spoke over the outraged muttering. “So sorry. Did we miss the part where the bride promises to be faithful to the groom forever? No matter. I promise to make this woman a happy Muslim wife. At least until I take another wife.” As he said this, he grabbed Jennifer’s arm.

Dirk had just promised to care for Jennifer and wasn’t about to let her get manhandled. “Let her go!” he shouted at Lion Lord. He punctuated his command with a small jolt of lightning.

Lion Lord decided that he had been hit with static electricity from Dirk’s shoes rubbing on the carpet, but he was unphased. He was being paid a good sum of money from their benefactor to disrupt this wedding, and he planned on earning it. He didn’t know why Monique Masters wanted to disrupt this wedding, but then he didn’t care. He simply wanted to honor his promise. Besides, interrupting an infidel ceremony like this gave him such joy that he would almost do it for free.

Lion Lord pointed at Tabitha and Rebecca. Without turning his head he commanded, “Wolf, Moonhunter, take those two as well.”

Rex, upon hearing his wife being threatened, rushed at the three Muslim men, diamond hard fists slamming in to their skulls. Wolf and Moonhunter hit the floor, but Lion Lord only got a glancing blow and turned to his remaining teammates. “She-Snake, Ali-gator, stop this infidel.”

She-Snake followed his orders, but Ali-gator turned towards her leader. “Mohammed, you spoke of taking this infidel woman as a wife! What about your promise to be my husband?”

Mohammed ignored his teammate while he watched She-Snake struggle with the man who attacked his troops. He began to worry when he saw flashing lights outside the church’s stained glass windows. He recalled the promise given to him and his friends as they were released on probation. “You are getting out now, but if you get caught again, plan on staying for an extended visit at the state hotel,” the woman had said.

She-Snake went down under Rex’s fists, and Ali-Gator, noticing what Lion Lord had observed, simply lay down with her hands stretched out over her head.

The police came in, apologizing for the interruption to the wedding, taking into custody all the Islamic attackers. “Well, I can promise you won’t forget your wedding day,” remarked Reverend Wallace to his son and his new daughter-in-law.

Cute essay. Right on topic. Enjoyed reading it.

Very unique storytelling.

It was a bit difficult to navigate the first read through, with all the unusual names but I 'got it' after my second review. It was thought provoking.

I don't think you're able to use a song lyric unless it's public domain or you have permission.

You could have used that part of Jennifer's vows without citing a song link, since it was a few simple words.

Although that's a great song!
