Topic: PROMISE (09/02/21)
In Genesis, God promised Abraham that he would make a great nation out of him – I will increase your numbers very, very much, and I will make you into nations.... This is when God changed Abram’s name to Abraham meaning ‘father of many nations’ . He promised them a land of their own. The promise of blessing and redemption was marked by a physical act in which circumcision occurred. All the men and boys needed to obey this, and it was covenantal.

Years later, God made a promise, covenant or agreement with Moses that he would deliver the Jews from slavery. God parted the Red Sea to allow them to escape on dry land. God always kept His Word. However, the Old promises or covenants made to the Jews were dependent on their obedience. History shows that the Old Covenants did not work. ' If it had, there would have been no need for another to replace it. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another' [ Hebrews 8:7].So, God decided to make a new covenant agreement; not based on written laws. This one, He would write on their hearts. In the New Testament, Jesus is the Mediator. It is a new and better covenant. He came to abolish the Law of the Prophets as read in Matthew. He fulfilled the Law of Moses (Matthew 5:17) and established the New Covenant between God and His people.

'But Christ, as a Minister in heaven, has been rewarded with a far more important work than those who serve under the old laws because the new agreement that he passes on to us from God contains far more wonderful promises’. [Hebrews 8:6}. The New Covenant (or New Testament) is the promise that God made with humanity. In this only the blood of His Son would be shed. He would forgive sin and restore fellowship with those ‘whose hearts are turned toward Him. Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Covenant, and His death on the cross is the basis of the promise’ (Luke 22:20].
As far back as Ezekiel 36, aspects of the New Covenant are prophesied: a new heart, a new spirit, the indwelling Holy Spirit and true holiness. The Mosaic or the Abrahamic covenants provided none of these gifts.
Today. we who believe, can take heart because we serve a God who has integrity and keeps His Word. He makes promises and keeps them.

Your entry will make a good Bible study.

However, be watchful as not to submit too soon. Your entry will read easier with a few more paragraphs and perhaps another edit.

I agree with Sue's assessment this would be a good bible study. I especially liked your last paragraph.

Here's a little red ink. There was a spacing error and several punctuation errors concerning quotations, punctuation goes inside of the ' or "
Also in the case of an ellipsis- I believe a series of three is sufficient.
