“He’ll be 42 years old,” Agent Jakob remarked. “Gets harder when they’re older.”
“But they really get it then. Hard times and heartaches work well together to make a man desperate for me.”
“True.” Jakob nodded. “What’s the plan for John?”
“He will suffer much … through his own choices.”
“Stubborn?”
“Yes.” A short laugh. “That, and more.”
“Good parents? Upbringing?”
“The best.”
“Then why…”
“He’ll scorn it all.”
Jakob leaned in. “I see he’s to marry Candace when he’s 25.”
“Yes. “She will betray him. Big time.”
“Poor John.” Jakob stroked his chin. “I’ve seen it before. Betrayal. One of the hardest to bear.”
“As did I.”
“Yes, my LORD.” Silence fell over the pair. Jakob blinked several times.
“That was hard to watch, my LORD.”
“But worth it, no?”
“Yes, my LORD, but still hard to watch.”
“So, it shall be for John. Jakob, you must focus on the goal and not what he suffers. You understand?”
“Yes, LORD.”
“So, as I said, John will suffer much because of his wife … the person he holds most dear in his heart.” He sighed. “Too dear, actually.”
“What do you mean by that, my LORD?”
“He will make an idol of her. She will take it, twist it and use it to destroy him.”
“Harsh.” Jakob whistled.
“Indeed, it is. However, I can use that.”
Jakob studied the parchment again. He gasped.
“She’ll use their kids as a weapon.”
“That will break his heart.”
“She’ll take him to court with false accusations.”
“That’ll be a blow.”
“What’s more, she’ll win. He will be denied all custody except one hour a week of supervised visits per week.”
“Is that when he meets you?”
“No. He’ll go further into darkness. Hate me. Blame me. Curse me.”
“Sorry for that, my LORD.”
“My dear Messenger. The further one gets from me the closer they come to finding me.”
“Yes, yes. This is true. What happens to John next?”
“He meets Belinda.”
“Does she treat him right?”
“Yes, but he won’t care. He will abandon her before she can harm him. Twisted, selfish thinking, but it’s all he understands at that time.”
“I feel for Belinda.”
“I have her future secured as well.”
“I’m glad of that, my LORD.”
“When he loses his second wife through his actions, John will crack.”
“Finally.”
“I said crack.” Jesus chuckled. “Not break.”
“There’s more to come?”
“Oh, yes. John will drink himself out of his job and onto the streets.”
“Terrible,” Jakob growled. “Why are some humans so stubborn?”
“My dear Jakob.” Jesus laid a hand on the agent’s shoulder. “The lower they go, the greater the salvation. Did not my king, David, write, “If I make my bed in hell, you are there” (Psalm 139:8)? John can’t get away from me because Holy Spirit surrounds him every moment of the day. To his right, his left, above and below him, Holy Spirt is there. He can’t out-sin my love, neither can he outrun it. No matter where he goes, my love is there. I take every foolish decision and use it for his salvation and my glory. John will see that, he will encounter me when he is 42.” Jesus leaned back. A huge smile spread across his face.
“I’m already looking forward to that day.”
