Some days, this old cheerleader can barely reach her pom-poms, but being an Isaiah 61 kind of girl, I crank that praise music a little louder and then bask in the worship that prepares my hungry soul. Some days I am hungrier than others and some days I am downright starving for His new-every-morning infilling.
This world is getting darker in every sense of the word. I am not surprised for His Word tells us this will take place before Jesus returns. But if I am honest, after the news reports one more horrific hate-filled event against school kids, church goers, elderly parents I recognize a collection of new dents in my armor. Sometimes a little too close for comfort I must admit.
In that shadowy place that threatens to starve me into vulnerability, I always have a choice. I can run to a seemingly safe superficial place and survive on crumbs of past victories or I can stop, rise from the feast that was mine, full and equipped and decree that I have tasted that the Lord is good and I will acknowledge Him in all my ways.
I want to serve the Lord enthusiastically and with joy so that others can feast too no matter what they may be going through. Make no mistake, joy is not happiness. Joy is the confidence that comes from experiencing Jesus and all His promises. We are not promised easy, but we are promised everlasting.
Psalm 107:8-10 Living Bible (TLB)
8 Oh, that these men would praise the Lord for his loving-kindness, and for all of his wonderful deeds! 9 For he satisfies the thirsty soul and fills the hungry soul with good. 10 Who are these who sit in darkness, in the shadow of death, crushed by misery and slavery?
