All 25 hands in the classroom shot up.
“Ok. Here we go. Monica, can you please help me in passing out these papers?”
When Monica came forward, Mrs. Ross whispered in her ear, “One per student please. Thank you.”
“One for you, one for you, one for you, and one for you.”
“One for you, one for you, one for you, and one for you.”
“Monica, please hurry it up.”
Monica walked faster around the classroom but still could be heard, “One for you, one for you, one for you and one for you.”
Finally, when all the slips had been dispersed, the class quieted down as they pondered the meaning for the numbers they had been given.
“Now, you will see a dot on the top corner. Reds on this side and blues on that side. Go.”
A flurry of activity later and the classroom was neatly divided in two.
“So, what do we have?” Mrs. Ross asked.
“I have a two.”
“I have a nine.”
“I don’t have a number,” Jackie whined.
“Yes, we have the numbers zero to nine and a front and back piece. My question now is, which color will put the pieces together first and what is the final product?”
The second grade children scrambled to put the pieces together.
Mrs. Ross yelled over the activity, “Remember to use the glue sticks on the table in front of you!”
“Mrs. Ross, I think we have something.”
“Can you tell me what it is?”
“It looks like a phone.”
“It is a phone. And now you have just demonstrated the scripture. Every number you had in your hands, when combined with the other numbers and pieces made a new product. The phone does not work unless it has all the pieces. Each piece is important. That is exactly what we are as Christians in the body of Christ. We are together as a church but made up of many different people all coming together as one. Any questions?”
“Yes, Gabe?”
“Can I call my Mom with this phone?”
