"Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 NIV
Recently in the news, a touching story was reported about an Australian sheep who had been missing for almost six years. For reasons unknown, the lamb wandered away from his flock, became lost, and lived on his own in the bush.
A short time ago, he was found with a notably odd appearance. He had five times as much wool as other livestock as he hadn’t been sheared in years. He could barely see or walk due to his immensely thick coat of fleece. When finally sheared, the mammal produced ninety pounds of wool. What a heavy burden he carried for so long, all because he wandered away from his fold. By leaving the flock, he forfeited peace and security that could only be provided by the shepherd.
I carry around heavy burdens, too. Sometimes the stresses of life weigh me down, causing it to be difficult to trudge through my daily tasks. Unfortunately, I wander, just as the sheep did, but from my Heavenly Father, thus sacrificing bountiful blessings He has in store for me. But God promises to help if I only come to Him. He provides rest and releases the heavy load bombarding me. He gives peace and refuge as I abide in Him, giving over all my concerns and troubles through prayer.
Be encouraged to stay in the fold, close to the Shepherd. Don’t let anything tempt or distract you into meandering away. Let the Lord lovingly “shear” all your worries, problems, and difficulties away.
“Heavenly Father, thank you for being the Shepherd who gives me guidance and protection. Help me to always stay close to You, in continuous communion, so I may give all my burdens over to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
