in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that there is a season and time for every purpose under heaven.
Aesop tells it this way: A wild boar was in the forest whetting his tusk against a tree, when along
came a fox and said: Why are you wasting your time, there is neither a hound nor a hunter in
sight. To which the boar replied: True enough, but when the danger arises I shall have something
else to do rather than sharpen my weapons. The boar wanted to be prepared.
And that is an action well applied during a retreat. Preparation.
The Oxford dictionary, suggests a period of seclusion for prayer and meditation. A time of
preparation, a retreat to prepare for the morrow.
Retreat can thus be a time to review the day, to review the events of that day, and how one could
have handled them better. It is a time to examine what the morrow holds for us, and examining
each one, rehearse how one can handle them, and then choosing the best of the possibilities, be
ready for the morrow.
It is a time where one can objectively examine every part of self, to identify weak areas, to reason
what will strengthen those weak areas, and confirm areas of strength. These are times one can add
facts, knowledge, and truth, thus enhancing their life, providing the materials to meet every event
in life. And it is a time to pray and ask God to be a part of everything we are involved in today,
and tomorrow.
Thus retreat becomes an asset !
