Carolyn and Tyler have a little boy named Grant celebrating his first birthday. Not having seen them for some time we were invited to have supper with them, to help commemorate his first year of life. Just learning to walk Grant felt he owned the house as he strutted across the floor. The scene was as if he was saying, “Here I am, look at me!” Crawling around under the dining room table, he stood up finding it delightful to walk around in circles freely without grownups stepping on him.
As he tired of this game under the table, he walked over to the side planning to walk right out from underneath. Bang! Then Grant took a step back trying from another open space by his daddy. Bang! Again he hit his head on the wide trim that hung on the edge for decoration and added stability. Grant didn’t have any trouble in the middle, but as soon as he came near the edge, he hit again.
This child could not figure out in his little mind, how to solve his dilemma. Actually, he couldn’t comprehend what it meant to bend his knees. We realized the trouble he was having, only after a cry of frustration rang out. To me, it was easy to figure it out, but I am older. At his age and experience he hadn’t yet learned how to solve situations similar to this.
Sounds familiar Christian? Why do we feel so trapped, imprisoned, in habits and behaviors? We don’t work to hard in finding solutions; we just talk and wear people out with our problems. When in reality, we need to be talking more with the Lord when we hit those hard times, or heading our head against the wall, or table edge. How about we try bending our knees a little more? Helps solve a lot of frustrations.
When you keep hitting your head Christian, try bending your knees!
Father,
Please come to my rescue! I am stuck in this place, and can’t seem to find my way out. I keep trying to get back where I started, but just keep hitting my head. Please Lord, hear my cries. I need you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
