“You know Red, this has to be one of the dumbest ideas you have come up with yet” Said Woody.
“If you think it’s so dumb then why did you tag along? You know you want to find where it is hidden just as bad as I do” Red said, as he turned to look at Woody, not being able to see him in the pitch dark.
“Hey Red did you hear about the guy that was out around these reeds about a month ago, well I heard they only found his legs and the rest of him had been eaten by a gator” Woody laughing said.
Red yelled back, “cut it out that isn’t funny, and you are not going to scare me with your bad jokes.”
They had been walking in the reeds for what seemed like hours, not venturing to far into the water. All of a sudden they heard voices. They stopped dead in their tracks, not wanting to be spotted by whoever was out there.
“Hey Woody,” Red whispered. “Did you bring the map?” Whispering back Woody said “ Yea I got it and a flash light, but now is not a good time to try and read anything. We need to lay low until our guest have left.”
Red and Woody listened intently to the strangers who were just a stones through away. They were trying to hear anything that would give them a clue as to what they were doing out there and who it was. They wondered if their unexpected guest could be looking for the same thing?
After what seemed like hours, the surprise visitors were finally leaving.
“Come on Sammy let’s get out of here,” Said Ralph.
“Right behind you Ralph “ Replied Sammy.
“Well at least we know who they are,” Wispered Woody, “did you hear what they said.”
“You bet I did, what a dirty trick to play on someone,” Replied Red, “So the map supposedly leading to the schools lost time capsule is a fake.”
“Yea it is just a joke to make someone look stupid, so they can have a good laugh. Well that’s not going to be us, we’re going to give Ralph and Sammy a taste of their own medicine. I have a plan Red, let’s go” Said Woody.
After a late night of talking and planning, Red and Woody headed to school the next morning. It was a teachers work day so they knew Mr. Pittman would be there. They showed him the map and shared their plan with him. He said he was more then happy to help teach Sammy and Ralph a lesson. The three of them got to work getting things ready for a Monday morning showdown.
“Red wait up, yelled Woody. I sure hope we pull this off today, I can’t believe Mr Pittman agreed to help us”.
“Well you know Woody, the school time capsule is his pride and joy, and knowing Ralph and Sammy were trying to make a joke of it didn’t set well with him” Said Red.
They got in their seats just as the bell rang. “Class, hope you all had a good weekend. As you know 25 years ago I had my students bury a time capsule with items they wanted to share with students in the future. You also know your class was suppose to be the ones that opened it. Sadly we had a huge flood a few years ago and the capsule was dislocated . I have been given a map over the weekend that shows the capsule got lodged in mud over by the reeds off Bay Shore Rd. I contacted your parents and they have given me permissions to take you all to there this morning, to dig it up.” Said Mr Pittman.
With that news the whole class starting clapping, except Ralph and Sammy.
“Let’s go, the bus is waiting out front for us. We have contacted the local News Paper and TV station and they are going to meet us there.” Said Mr Pittman.
Sammy whispered to Ralph, “what is going on, if this gets in the News we are in big trouble.”
Without thinking Ralph jumped in front of the door not letting anyone out.
“What is wrong with you Ralph,” Mr Pittman asked.
“You can’t let this get in the news, Sammy and I were just joking around.” Said Ralph .
“ I know “ Said Mr Pittman, “we are joking to, you reap what you sow.”
