It all began six months ago.
I needed to buy a new sweater.
My current one was unraveling,
I wanted one that was better.

I searched the stores throughout the town
To find what I thought was needed.
Wrong sizes and colors, out of stock—
My efforts went unheeded.

I was upset with time I’d wasted.
To shopping I said good-bye.
Then a new idea came into my head.
Online! I’d give it a try.

I clicked some keys to achieve the buy,
My new sweater was on its way.
I also bought a pair of gloves
And a new place for my cat to lay.

Faster, cheaper, no muss, no fuss,
I found what I wanted and more.
Soon a new pastime took over my life
And I never went out the door!

Each day I greeted the UPS truck
As my purchases mounted up.
Each night I found new things to buy,
My bank account was gobbled up.

I had to do something to stop this spree,
Bid good-bye to this awful trend.
Bye to the cloud that stores all the goods,
Bye to my clicking friend.

I’d gotten drawn in one click at a time
Until shocked by what I’d done.
I’d come to the place at the end of my rope.
I’d used up all of our funds.

It took God’s intervention
And my sinful confession
To break the stronghold in my life,
Ending my gripping obsession.

Thanks be to God for strength to change,
For forgiveness and cleansing my heart.
I’ve learned that my buying needs to occur
With good-bye to my online cart.
