Everyone was sitting around the kitchen table on this very sad day. They had just returned from Sally’s funeral with heavy hearts, from the lost of their Mother, wife, Aunt or friend. Didn’t matter which title she held, she had a special place in each of their lives.
They began telling about memories they had of Sally.
Some were sad, some funny, but most had a memory of how Sally had affected their life in different ways.
Sue for instanced remembered going to Sally when she thought her marriage was ending. Sue looked over at her husband who said “if it had not been for the advice we got from her, we would not be here together 20 years later still loving each other.” This brought tears to their eyes and to others at the table.
John, Sally’s nephew said “ yea she was a life saver to me as well, I had gotten hooked on drugs, was broke and had no where to go. Aunt Sally took me in to live with her, got me the professional help I needed and job. I stayed with her for over a year. She never made me fill like I was a lost cause, as so many of my friends and family members had done. She showed me unconditional love.”
Bob, her Husband for the past 50 years told had she was always making people laugh. She always said “ get people laughing and no problem seems to big to handle”.
She also like to quote the scripture:
“A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.”
Proverbs 17:22 AMP
Bob said with a lump in his throat “I can say with all my heart she was a blessing from God and the love of my life. The person that gave me more laughter, joy and love then any one man could ever image having, even in their wildest dreams.” You could tell his heart was breaking as he spoke about her with such love and admiration.
They were all missing Sally today more then words could say, but they were allowing their stories to bring her right there in the mist of them . Some shared from their hearts others just listened, still others at times would nod their heads in agreement.
One thing they all agreed on for sure, was that Sally had deposited a part of her in each of theirs lives. She had loved them all when they needed it, in different ways,
with no strings attached.
We never know what deposits of love, kindness, wisdom and joy we are making in someone’s life. We should be careful how we live. We don’t want to be an overdraft to someone sucking the life out of them. We want to be depositing good things in their lives, helping people find a way to have a loving, happy, giving ,and productive life.
Sally lived her life in such a way that there was no doubt where she was on this day. As they were all reminiscing and with heavy hearts there was also an undeniable peace that filled that room.
