“And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being” Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
We can only imagine what their relationship was like, but truly it must have been a connection never again to be experienced by humans. Father God walked in the garden with his two friends, and I suspect they were so close they didn’t even need words to communicate. Perhaps it was intense, and so filled with love that we cannot understand it until we too reach the place where we can commune directly with our Heavenly Father.
Then, of course, sin broke that beautiful relationship. No longer was there a peaceful loving atmosphere in the garden. Fear, doubt, anger, guilt and other negative emotions took up residence in the once beautiful place. Adam and Eve had to leave their garden paradise and live a life filled with labor, turmoil and strife.
Father God knew there would be a battle for our souls, so He devised a beautiful plan to bring us back into fellowship with Him. (John 3:16)
2. God the Son came into the world.
“And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” Luke 1:35 (NKJV)
To God the Father time is of no consequence, and although It took thousands of years, hope was breathed into the world. When God the Son came into the world all life was given a second chance. His ministry showed what real love is, and to what extent our Creator would go to restore the original peaceful relationship with man.
The perfect Son of God and man sacrificed his life on the cross for all mankind. He rose again on the third day and walked among mortal men. When he explained to those who listened about the miracle that had happened, their hearts burned within them. He also explained how he would be leaving and would send a comforter to give them the peace they had felt with Him.
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— “ John 14:16 (NKJV)
3. God the Holy Spirit breathed on me.
The third breath is available to every person who believes. He came into my heart years ago when I surrendered my heart and soul to Jesus Christ as my savior and Lord. The promised comforter gives peace beyond understanding, but it is as real as the soft breezes through the trees.
Once again human kind can have a glorious relationship with our creator. There is still sin in this mortal body, therefore I cannot commune directly with my Father God. It is through His son that I can approach the throne and make my petitions known.
“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” I John 2:1 (NKJV)
The “better hope” will bring me near to God. (Hebrews 7:19) When I feel the Holy Spirit moving in my heart I want to lift my eyes to my Father in heaven, and wrap my arms around His Son who gave His life for me. I know the perfection God requires is unattainable, but I also know when He looks at me he only sees the blood of his perfect Son, who washed away all sin during the second breath.
As I bow my head in prayer this Thanksgiving day I will remember how undeserving I am of the many blessings received this year. Instead of complaining about how hard life has been in 2020, I will turn my attention toward eternity where there will be no broken hearts, no covid, or elections, only the love of the Great Three in One.
“But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NKJV)
