“Why won’t they help me?” she screamed. Hours went by as she held on to her life.
Snap… the rope broke. The woman woke. “Same time, same place tomorrow”, she thought. Got up, fixed herself coffee and began another day.
She was tired, and ready for change but never sure where to begin. It wasn’t that life was too hard, she was glad to be a wife and a mother. But she never seemed to live up to the standard. Like in her dreams, it was as if someone was always peering down at her, ready to catch every mistake.
Quietly, she dredged through her day feeling like she was slipping farther and farther. She didn’t want to live like this anymore. But no one was there to listen and her problems were not obvious to anyone else.
“Could God really care, when no one else does?” she wondered to herself. He was the only one there so she asked Him.
The answer was quiet, if there was an answer at all. Still, she knew He was there and that was enough for another day. She tucked her children into bed, said goodnight to her husband and went to bed early.
The dream began again, always the same. She stood near the edge of the cliff, no one was pushing her but still she was falling. There was a rope. She reached and grabbed it beginning another battle with time. Struggling to hold on, while her husband or some other well meaning person in her life, watched with folded arms and judgemental glances.
Tonight however, she was allowed a panoramic view. She was no longer looking up in fear with stinging eyes. She could see herself still clinging onto the rope. But there was another rope, extending from the Heavens, tied securely around her waist.
Those that were staring at her were not accusing, simply observing the amazing rescue of another hand. One offering more hope then they could provide.
She saw that she would never fall. No longer must she cling to her own life and use all the strength she had to live up to every other person's expectations.
When the woman awoke to a new morning she could almost feel the rope still around her waist. Somehow she felt free. "Free to surrender," she thought. "Surrender to love."
