Writing in the poetry genre
Is this sentence grammatically correct?

Once upon a time in a faraway land, there lived a little gnome who stayed hidden in a very small and dirty cave. He was pretty miserable, but safe. And then one day something very strange started happening to the little gnome. He started hearing voices and he thought it was God speaking to him. He never thought about God much and he certainly did not expect God to be making conversation with him. It was very startling! And then it was pretty nice to have a secret friend. One who could do anything! The little gnome knew that there was another gnome living nearby, but they did not associate much. So he never told the second gnome that God was speaking aloud to him. He did not want the other gnome to have a secret friend too! Or, even worse, to tell him that he was delusional or psychotic or schizophrenic or anything at all like that. The little gnome began to clean up his dirty little cave. He even trimmed his beard and toenails. And he went out to stand in the sun once in a while too. And then the little gnome realized that it was not really God himself speaking at all. IT WAS THE OTHER GNOME. The other gnome was playing tricks on him! After about 30 years, the first gnome got over it. But for a while, he was quite psychotic.

I'm not sure I understand how this is poetry. Cute story, but it doesn't seem to fit.

Sorry if I'm just not getting it, though.

Certainly unique. Maybe you could arrange it in meters and use some poetic, descriptive language to make it more like poetry. Clever title.

Uh... okay. Poetic license?

I must say, though, the story itself was fun and good for a few giggles - especially the ending. It tickled!
