A young shepherd boy surrenders his will
As he lifts his voice in praise to his King
Only the lambs will hear and follow as he sings
In a hidden valley a faithful one leads
No one looking on, he cares for their needs
For he knows the One who tries the heart
So he is steadfast and content to do his part
Chorus:
Hidden valleys produce a life song
Hidden valleys will make a heart strong
Desperation can cause you to sing
Hidden valleys turn shepherds to kings
In a hidden valley a leader is born
He has faced the fierce and weathered the storm
So with humble heart and love for his God
He becomes royalty with just a staff and rod. 1
I wonder how David felt, all alone, just he and the sheep?
Hidden valley's turn shepherds to kings.
You know, I don't suppose David felt like a king, when he sat on the grassy slopes, twirling a blade of grass between his fingers. "What's my purpose, here? My older brothers are off fighting battles, and I'm stuck here with these sheep." I suppose he may have felt like a forgotten kid.
You and I feel that way, sometimes. I have a hard time getting past the thought that God's forgotten me when life doesn't seem to have the color that I think it should.
It wasn't always grassy slopes for David. His life had plenty of color, when he was tending the sheep. Oh, he made not have thought it was colorful when he wrestled the lion and the bear to save the life of one of the sheep. In a dutiful, "Oh, I have to do this again," kind of way, it was just normal for him to give all in order to save one sheep.
Then, one day, it really meant something! They doubted him. It may have come, almost stammering across his lips as he raced through his mind to recall some past forgotten, unacknowledged bravery, hard, for him to give account of his qualifications. He was so steadfast on relying on God, that his lifelong circumstances and experience paled in comparison.
Thus are you and I to be. What we've done may matter to the world whose job is to appoint us (or, so we think), but, God sees the heart quite simply because He's the one who's prepared it. It wasn't the opportunity or promotion, or even the demotion! It was the battles, yes, even the valley's that taught David's heart to fear only One.
Hidden valley's turn shepherds to kings. Now, sit back on that grassy slope, twirl that blade of grass between your fingers and ask yourself, "What's my purpose, here? My older brothers are off fighting battles, and I'm stuck here"! Royalty is in your blood because of Jesus Christ! What has He brought you through?
