Recovering from a year of piled up debts and on the verge of losing my home, I don’t know what each new day will bring. I pray each day that God will allow me to keep my home. Maybe He will and maybe He won’t. I’m not in a panic because I know that no matter how this all plays out, He is in control. I have peace in my heart.
My eight-teen year old son became involved with a woman on the internet. He quit school and moved to another state. He is in a bad situation and involved with ungodly people and their ungodly life-style. I barely hear from him. On the rare occasions when he does call me, I hear his voice crack and he sounds like he’s crying. I don’t know if he’s safe and I believe he’s involved in things that have the potential to cause him harm. I remember the verse I told him each morning before he went to school because he was terribly shy. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. “ 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) I whisper the words to myself and I have peace in my heart.
Three months of constant pain, grueling tests and finally surgery. My twenty-year-old son is diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He faces an uncertain future here on earth, but we know what eternity holds and we both have peace in our hearts.
Life thus far has been a challenge, but who am I to question God? Job had a little something to say about that when his wife suggested he curse God and die. “But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.” Job 2:10 (KJV) Whenever I’m tempted to shout, “This isn’t fair,” to God, that is the verse that always pops into my head.
Learning to accept the trials has not always been easy for me. Life has been a huge lesson in learning how to conquer fear and in being content in order to have that peace. To experience personal peace one must first experience perfect love.
Peace is to trust the Lord completely. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18 (KJV) Claiming that personal peace is an ongoing occurrence obtained by daily giving ones burdens to the Lord.
Personal peace is to know and believe that no matter how desperate your circumstances, He’s got your back.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, and are called according to [his] purpose.” Romans 8:28 (KJV)
We may not be able to understand what possible good could come out of some trials, but that’s why God is God and you and I aren’t. Isaiah 55:8-9 says, “For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. “ It’s important to remember that He knows our future and He knows how our life will play out. Therefore, He alone knows what’s best for us.
It’s a simple formula really, (perfect love + perfect trust= personal peace).
