I was angry at God yesterday. Gasp and swoon all you want but I am going to say it anyway. I was angry. I had an experience that hurt me and my family deeply and it seemed to me like “enough was enough” I had been dealing with adversity for over a year now and yesterday felt like the last straw.
David went through a similar time as we read Psalm74 and many others David is crying out to God sometimes even angry frustration. He had been promised things and at this point in his life he didn’t see them. He didn’t even see the possibility of them. That was what yesterday was like. So what did he do? Did he run away and sulk? Did he lash out at others? Did he quit? No instead he did the same thing I did he went to God and asked why and how long. He wrote it out like I am doing now. These Psalms of his have helped countless generations since understand that it is ok to question as long as you bring the questions to the only one who can answer them. As he bought forth these questions he was forced to remember past victories and also to remember the promise he had been given and to realize once again that the one who made these promises was God. God, the all powerful who could deal with these problems in the blink of an eye if he wanted to so therefore if he didn’t he must have a reason. A reason that eventually led David (and myself) to turn from anger to rejoicing in his name.
We will get angry at God, at others and at situations we do not understand. So the question then is; in our anger will we sin and turn from God, or will we cry out to our Lord for even more help? Will we accepting the fact that he has it all under his control and rejoice in that fact? Yesterday I went to my God and chose to remember and honor him. Please do the same when it happens to you.
