A splash into my soul
You’ve come my sorrows to destroy
And fill this gaping hole.
This day began as all the rest
I woke to deep despair
The searing pain within my breast
Held all my burdens there.
My expectations for the day
Lay low and gaunt and deep
The pendulum swung black and gray
My heart a tattered heap.
The path that led me to this gloom
Weren’t steps I chose to take
Trapped inside this empty tomb
I’d suffered every ache.
But still it was I longed to know
The touch of joy’s caress
To rest in Heaven’s afterglow
Its depth and breadth expressed.
The day went on, despair remained
I longed for it to end
But then, the sound that fell like rain
Did on my ears descend.
For all the sadness, pain and gloom
The time had finally come
I felt hope soar within my womb
Could this call be the one?
Breathlessly I heard the voice
Confirming what I’d prayed
The birth mother had made her choice
And I, the choice she’d made.
Oh, where’d you come from, drop of Joy?
A splash into my soul
God’s gift I’ll love and I’ll enjoy
And who will make me whole.
