Safety Under His Wings

Psalms 91:4- “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
Psalms 91:10-11- “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”

God is our Father, our Savior, and our very best friend. As with all nurturing Fathers, God is our protector. A protector’s main goal is to keep his loved ones safe and away from harm and danger. God has given and equipped us with his whole armour. We are soldiers in God’s holy army. God’s armour is designed to protect us against attacks from the enemy. God’s armour protects us during spiritual warfare. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil,” (Ephesians 6:11). “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth: and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:13-17). “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,” (Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible is full of examples of God’s mercy and protection of his people. God promises to “never leave us nor forsake us,” (Hebrews 13:5). “So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me,” (Hebrews 13:6). There are several examples of God’s unwavering protection for his people throughout the Bible. God protects the Apostles throughout their ministries of Christ on the earth. Acts chapter five describes such an incident of God’s faithful protection. “There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed everyone. Then the high priest rose up and all they that were with him; (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, And laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said, Go stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life,” (Acts 5:16-20). God protected the apostles from death.

Similarly, in Acts chapter 12, God protects Peter from death when King Herod had him apprehended. “And behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. And the angel said unto him Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals, And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me,” (Acts 12:7-8). Likewise, God protected the children of Israel from Pharaoh and his army; when he parted the Red Sea and allowed them to pass through on dry land. “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will shew to you today: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen today; ye shall see them again no more forever. The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace,” (Exodus 14: 13-14). “And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and Egyptians fled against it; and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. And the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them,” (Exodus 14:27-28). God still protects us in the same way even today. What a caring God we serve.

You make some great points in this piece. God is definitely our protector. Instead of quoting a bunch of different scriptures, consider picking just one or two verses and really expand on that. You could share how that verse impacted your life or expound on what the verses say and how it relates in today's world. Another thing I might suggest would be to go and count how many times you used protect or armor. I think you might be surprised. It would be great to use other words or to show how God protects us. You have some excellent advice and you definitely nailed the topic. I can see this as the start of a great Bible study idea.
