Wiping off tears from her face, Anne leaned down to turn the pages of the book on her lap; her only solace since long.
She skimmed through the well-worn Psalms till her eyes rested on a snippet from one of David’s songs which was both a lament and an effusion of praise.
“My times are in Your hand.” (Psalm 31:15) *
As she read through the entire psalm once again, those few words seemed to jump off the page and assume a life of their own.
Only a couple of lines back, David had cried out, “fear is on every side.”
However, there followed a simple but powerful assertion, “My times are in Your hand”
The implicit confidence David felt in his God, in His power to protect and deliver could not be mistaken!
The truth began to sink in as never before: it was God who gave life, it was God alone could preserve it and who would, in the destined time, take it back. He was the Sovereign arbiter, no matter how terrifying the situation seemed to be!
As was her usual practice, Anne started scribbling in a notepad attached to her Bible.
My times are in Your hand
The hand of Him who has All things planned.
Times of joy, unbridled and pure,
Hedged in by all that seems secure,
Seasons, full of sunny blue skies,
Spring days teeming with butterflies,
My times of joy are in your hand
On this truth, I do firmly stand.
My times are in Your hand
The hand of Him who has All things planned.
Times of grief, heartbreak, and loss
When my heaving vessel is tempest-tossed,
Seasons, when pain creeps in to stay
And darkness blocks the light of day,
My times of grief are in Your hand
On this truth, I do firmly stand.
My times are in Your hand
The hand of Him who has All things planned.
Times of peril when dangers loom
Shadowed by every dread and gloom,
Times when fear seems to have full sway
There's a war waging to get Joy to stay,
My times of peril are in Your hand
On this truth, I do firmly stand.
My times are in Your hand
The hand of Him who has All things planned.
Times of uncertainty, of not knowing
What lies ahead, where I’m going,
Like an ebbing wave on sands of time
I've no hold now on what ‘fore felt mine,
My times of uncertainty are in Your hand
On this truth, I do firmly stand.
My times are in Your hand
The hand of Him who has All things planned
The hands that flung stars all over space
Yet held in place on the Cross by nails,
The hand of Him who will rend the sky
With a trumpet sound one day, by 'n by
My times, all times, are in Your hand
On this truth, I do firmly stand.

Just one thing I stumbled over was the ending of the first sentence in the 2nd paragraph, where you wrote. "...her only solace since long." Since I'm not familiar with the craft of poetry, I'm not sure what happened there or the meaning. But felt I should let you know how it broke the flow for me. But other than that ... well done!
