A good leader cares about his people, whereas someone who only cares about results does not. The shepherd sacrificed his life to the wolf to protect his sheep, just as Christ sacrificed himself to protect us from Satan.
If the shepherd had not sacrificed himself, his sheep would have died. If Christ had not sacrificed Himself, we would not be here today. Christ never hired anyone to guard us, as He knew that they would give in to their greed and not care about us enough to protect us from sin. Instead, He did it Himself and allowed Himself to die on the cross so that He could wash our sins away. If He had not done that, Satan would have an even tighter grip on us now. All true leaders should aspire to be Christlike in their leadership, protecting their flock and being willing to sacrifice themselves for their people. They must not go out of their way to hire people who only care about the profit, as they can not protect us.
Christ is our Good Shepherd. We are his flock. Soon, He will open the gate and enter the pen to judge us. Have we been faithful? Have we repented? Have we accepted Him into our hearts?
