Lord knows I didn’t intend on hurting anyone, especially someone who was so helpless to begin with. My only goal was to be free. When I seen them coming, I had to run. If they caught me now I would have to go back. I would rather die. From what I had heard, some that were caught, did not go back but actually did die. Anyway, I wasn’t ready to find out what was and wasn’t true. Please God, don’t let them see me, I prayed.
Alone again, I made my way out. Now what? Where would I go? I heard there were towns up north where people might be willing to help those of us who came, but I needed help now. After four days of running and hiding I was ready for a feast if only there was one to be found. I thought of the old lady I had pushed out of my way as I ran through her back yard. Stopping to help her up wasn’t an option. Lord I pray she is ok, I didn’t mean to hurt her honestly I didn’t.
Seeing a clearing up ahead and sure I heard the sound of running water, I gained strength and I hurried along to reach it. A drink would taste so good right now. My hope renewed, for I knew in my heart that God has supplied all my needs when I trusted Him. Why have I doubted? When did I start to give into fear and despair? It wasn’t that long ago that I was sharing the love of Jesus with groups of young people. I knew no better or fulfilling time in my life, yet now, here I was in what seemed to be the darkest and loneliness time.
The clearing brought more than I had even hoped for, a pool of water inviting me in. So refreshing and healing to wash the dirt and gravel out of my wounds. I celebrated the gift. I drank from the cascade running down over the small ledge above. Oh how good life seemed for a moment. Oh how easy it was to forget my troubles and the unknown path I faced.
Words came easily, reminding me of the faithfulness, hope and love I knew in Jesus. Lord, guide me, lead me. Give me wisdom, discernment. Fill me with your love and help me to see my enemies as you see them. I want to love them the way you love them,. I want to extend to them the same mercy and grace you’ve extended to me. Forgive me Lord. Hate came too easily and judgement as well. Father, forgive them. They are so blinded by the enemy. I pray they come to know you, your love and sacrifice. Lord, use me, strengthen me that I don’t run from you...but to you.
Yes Lord, I will go back. I’ll make sure she is ok and see if there is anything I can do to help her before moving on. Lord, help me not startle her when I get there. Allow enough light to be left in the day for observing the land and objects around her. It appears that she is alone as well, no sign of another life partnering with her. Lord, help her to not be afraid for I believe she sees me coming. I think she is actually smiling at me! Is that the tune to ‘The Old Rugged Cross’ I hear her humming? She is calling out to me, “I’ve been expecting you! Father said you would come.” I should have known! She is a Sister in Christ! Here I was thinking I would be of some help to her, but of course you had a plan for both of us. Praise your Holy Name Lord! Praise you for your faithfulness! Praise you for your grace! Forgive me for worrying while running to escape the enemy, Help me remember, I cannot escape your love.
