From the very start there’s been a rhythm
that flows from God’s eternal will and plan.
He brought the world and man into existence
then paused a day before the week began.
Later came a boat that floated roughly
on stormy waves of sinner-laden flood.
Noah and his family, with their critters,
would drift a year before they tread on mud.
Abraham and Sarah were decrepit
when Issacs’s tiny form fulfilled the vow.
Joseph’s dream took decades and a record
before his brothers felt obliged to bow.
Forty years they traveled through the dessert.
And then God’s people reached the Promised Land.
David had to fight his share of battles
and bide his time until he gained command.
Prophets came to give official warnings
and told about the future reigning king.
Hope began to swell for the Messiah.
They longed for the redemption that He’d bring.
God came down and wore a human body
then waited to begin His ministry.
Taking all our sins with Him to cal’vry,
He paid for them and then He set us free!
Now—with eager hearts we make Lord Jesus
the object of our unrelenting love.
Serving Him with all that is within us,
we watch and set our sight on things above.
