Of my protective shell.
Voices of regret and pain echo.
Darkness becomes comfort.
Normal, if you will.
In desperate need of light,
I press against the walls of denial.
Behind me are sheets of lies
Closing in with whispers of drama.
Swatting them away like insects,
Cracks the outer layer of my fortress.
Light bleeds through.
It feels like sunshine on my face!
Forgetting about the past.
Desperately seeking asylum
From all of this rubbish,
I press harder against the crack.
Light finally floods all around me
Filtering through the gaps in my armor.
I see something different now
As I crawl out of the shell,
And step over the ashes of my brokenness.
Leaving behind the dark comfort of torment
I step toward light that fills the holes in my soul.
Joy and peace overtake my spirit.
My mind is refreshed.
I’ve been given a new life.
Thankful for the darkness that led me
Into this glorious light!
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:
Old things are passed away; behold,
All things are become new.
