When my children were little many years ago they enjoyed Sesame Street. One of the routines I remember to this day is when the monsters Grover and Harry tried to explain the difference between ‘here’ and ‘there’ to a little monster. He said,” I want to go there,” So Grover would send him to Harry over there. But when he got there, Harry said,” Now you’re here.” But the little guy was confused, “But I want to be there.” So Harry sent him back to Grover over there. This happened several times with everyone getting frustrated. Finally as Grover and Harry started to leave they said,”Just go over there.” He was so happy to finally be there, until another monster came looking for him and said, ”What are you doing here?” Thanks to the internet I found that video and watched it again after 40 years.

Do you get frustrated trying to get to where you think you should be? How do we get from here to there? This could relate to any area of your life; relationships, a job or career, the right education, where to live, or even where you want to feel like you belong.

I don’t have problems meeting people and enjoy getting to know them. It seems I have a lot of brief encounters, and I do have a few long term relationships. One day I commented to a friend, “I don’t feel like I fit in any place.” My friend said, “But Judy, you fit in everyplace.” That made me feel better.

I know some people that have had a stable life, only moving a few times and still close to family and friends. I thought I would like to live in a small town as portrayed in the Hallmark Stories. But life is not a Hallmark Story.

I moved a lot in my youth a different school every year till high school. Over 55 times in my seventy plus years. I don’t even have a home of my own today. Self-employed and lack of business like many others has been a financial hardship.

The lesson I have learned in all the hardships and problems that I have endured is that God is still faithful and true. Every time I thought I had an idea for where I wanted my ‘there’ to be and it didn’t happen, God had a better solution. I have finally understood what Paul meant when he said he could have everything or nothing and still be content.

I know Who I belong to, and have put all my cares, worries, dreams, desires and concerns in God who created all things and knows all things. His word says if I trust Him with my whole heart and lean not on my own understanding, and acknowledge Him He will direct my path. And He has, He has made a way when there was no way.

My ultimate ‘there’ will be with Jesus for eternity. I am just passing through, I am in this world but not of this world.

By keeping a grateful heart and trusting the Almighty God and giving Him your requests, and accepting the out come will give you a peace beyond understanding.
The Joy of the Lord is my strength.
