For fifty three years, I wavered between belief and unbelief. “Does God, really, exist? Does God have a son called Jesus? Does salvation make scientific sense?” I asked myself many times.
“Isn’t this a mere religious propaganda by the clergy to justify their employment and social status?”
The more I listened to the propaganda and read the Bible, the deeper my unbelief and doubt became.
I went through the school system fairly easily up to University and post graduate levels.
After graduation, I entered the employment world with zeal and gusto and rose through the ranks to CEO level. Though I succeeded academically and professionally, I was never happy. I had this deep void in me that would never leave me no matter what I achieved. My life was characterized and dominated by fear, doubt, anxiety, restlessness, blind ambitions and competitive spirit and social indulgence.
The more I hankered for social ideals that promised me happiness and freedom, the greater the void in me became.
The advent of pandemic HIV/AIDS, in late 1980s, aggravated my precarious situation. Death became rampant. The devil assured me that I was a target since he witnessed me sinning many times.
Fearing that I may die unsaved and risk going to hell, I considered believing in the unscientific God and his Bible.
I read the Bible twice from Genesis to Revelation searching for God and salvation. All I found were Jewish legends similar to those in my own culture. I attempted a third time and gave up in Psalms.
I prayed that God or Jesus or Angel Gabriel would appear before and give me the much preached-about salvation. Nothing happened for years. I prayed for Pauline type of conversion on his way to Damascus. That, too, did not happen.
One day, while in my office, on Tuesday 6.7.1999 at 18:43hrs, something extraordinary happened. Suddenly, the office was filled with intense light from ceiling to floor and from wall to wall. I thought of running out raising an alarm but feared meeting more fire beyond the door. Suddenly, some electric-like sweet current gushed through my body from cranium to toes. I thought now the fire had left the building to me! Before I could raise the delayed alarm a clear voice spoke to me.
“Why do you doubt me, and my salvation? I am your God. I give you my salvation.”
That day and hour, I accepted God’s gracious gift. That was my turning point. Suddenly, the very moment I accepted, the 53 year burden of sins supernaturally vanished and joy and transcendent peace descended upon me no matter what challenges I face. Praise be to God.

When we accept the gift of God, we accept his as Lord of our life. This means it is our responsibility to begin to see how God expect me to live and change our life accordingly.
Nice writing.
