We often think of obedience in the context of obedience to God’s word or obedience to those God has placed in authority over us. Of course these are important.
However, I would like to propose another thought with a bit of a twist on obedience. Should we not obey the inner promptings that the Holy Spirit has placed deep in our hearts? I’m speaking of those undeveloped talents that God has given us. It takes courage, determination and planning to stretch ourselves. We must also train, practice and put those talents to use.
In the book of Samuel we can read the story of how Samuel learned to be still, listen and respond to God’s voice. In the book of Matthew we can read the “Parable of the talents and reflect on how the “talents” were used or not used.
God is the author of creativity, strength and courage. He will sustain us as we reach out in pursuit of hidden or latent talents He has given us. God said in His word,
“Be still and know that I am God.” But after that let’s get moving and get to work using those talents and abilities God has given us.

Carol, you are so right about being obedient to the Holy Spirit. When we ask for something, all we have to do is obey God, and he will provide.
