(Did We?)
At the close of every day
When our thoughts start to stray,
Let’s reflect on the things we could have done
To encourage another
And bring him/her closer to the Son.
As we ponder on these things,
We might ask ourselves:
Were we kind and thoughtful?
Did we give fruitful answers
spreading seeds of
love and good cheer?
Did we offer pleasant words
of comfort
to all that were near?
Were we concerned about wrongs
being done to our neighbors and friends?
Did we - as peacemakers,
try to build bridges of harmony again?
Did we care enough to give our very best -
even when our friends won’t see;
when they refuse to listen to what’s being said
resulting in tempers so easily fed.
Did we convince them we’re not just being critical?
Did we show love as the basis for our concern?
For, unless they know what’s wrong,
or what’s right,
they’ll never know
if they’re winning the fight.
Did we tell anyone what Jesus said
about loving one’s neighbor as
we love ourselves?
Did we tell them this means
sharing spiritually, mentally,
and physically,
making all of God’s people
our responsibility.
Finally, did we respond to our
feelings of wanting to help,
And show compassion by doing
not just our part;
but, so very much more;
so that we can receive,
What the Father has in store.
